WHO announces influenza vaccine composition for the coming season |

WHO has announced today (February 18, 2010) the influenza viruses recommended for influenza vaccines for the use in the 2010/2011 northern hemisphere influenza season. The recommended viruses are:
- an A/California/7/2009 (H1N1)-like virus,
- an A/Perth/16/2009 (H3N2);like virus (A/Wisconsin/15/2009 is an A/Perth/16/2009 (H3N2)-like virus and is a current southern hemisphere vaccine virus),
- a B/Brisbane/60/2008-like virus.
Dr Wengqing Zhang, GISN, WHO is announcing the WHO recommended viruses
for influenza vaccines for use in the 2010/2011 northern hemisphere influenza season
during the WHO Information Meeting on February 18, 2010
in the Centre International de Conferences Geneve.
On the presidium with her are Dr Zhiping Ye, FDA, USA, Chair of the Meeting and
Dr Keiji Fukuda, Special Advisor on Pandemic Influenza to the Director General, WHO

WHO Consultation on Influenza Vaccine Composition for the Northern Hemisphere in 2010/2011 season has started yesterday (February 14, 2010) in Geneva, Switzerlend. WHO has called the leading influenza experts of the World to give the recommendation on this important issue. Among 33 invitees from the WHO Collaborating Centers on Influenza, and National Influenza Centers and other stakeholders is an expert from Mongolia: Prof.P.Nymadawa, Scientific Advisor, NIC, Mongolia. On the following three days the experts will discuss in the closed doors the problem from different angles of the subject and will announce for the public the vaccine composition recommendation on February 18, 2010.

Chinese National Influenza Center will become soon a new WHO Collaborating Center for Influenza |
|
|
A mission dispatched by the WHO, headed with its Assistant Director-General Keiji Fukuda has visited on November 11-12, 2009 the Chinese National Influenza Center (CNIC) in its new campus. CNIC as a part of the Chinese Center of Disease Control (China CDC) has contributed greatly in recent years to control influenza events within the China and worldwide. WHO mission has supported the request of the Government of PRChina to designate CNIC as the 5th WHO Influenza Collaborating Center for Reference and Research on Influenza.
